Our Tuning Stages Explained
Our approach to tuning is engineering-led, with a focus on performance, reliability and the mechanical condition of every vehicle.
Each calibration is developed specifically for the individual vehicle in front of us, using its original software as the foundation. We do not install generic or off-the-shelf files.
The stages below provide a clear guide to the level of modification and calibration involved.
Stage 1 – Software Performance Calibration
For completely standard vehicles.
Stage 1 is a refined ECU calibration developed for vehicles with no hardware modifications. The factory software is carefully recalibrated to deliver increased performance while maintaining everyday reliability and drivability.
Outcome:
Noticeable and safe increase in power and torque
Improved throttle response and drivability
No hardware modifications required
Factory refinement retained
Stage 1 is ideal for customers seeking OEM+ performance without altering the vehicle’s hardware.
Stage 2 – Supporting Hardware & Enhanced Calibration
For vehicles fitted with performance upgrades.
Stage 2 is engineered for vehicles modified to improve airflow and thermal efficiency.
The calibration is precisely matched to these supporting components to ensure controlled and reliable performance gains.
Typical Supporting Modifications:
-
Performance exhaust system
-
Upgraded intercooler
-
Intake improvements
-
Uprated clutch where torque output requires
Outcome:
Increased mid-range and top-end performance
Improved performance under sustained load
Fast road–focused setup
Stage 2 represents a structured progression beyond Stage 1, supported by appropriate hardware upgrades.
Custom Bespoke Tuning (Often Labelled as “Stage 3”)
Beyond Stage 2, tuning moves away from staged upgrades and into fully bespoke performance development.
What is commonly marketed as “Stage 3” is, in reality, custom bespoke tuning.
At this level there is no universal file. Each calibration is engineered around that specific vehicle — its hardware specification, mechanical condition and intended application.
Typical Vehicle Specification at This Level:
Larger or hybrid turbochargers
Upgraded fuel system components
Strengthened drivetrain assemblies
Internal engine modifications where required
Our Approach:
Fully custom ECU calibration
Turbo-specific boost control strategy
Torque modelling to protect drivetrain components
Dyno calibration utilised for validation and performance verification
Road data logging where required to refine and validate the calibration
Performance at this level is entirely dependent on the vehicle’s mechanical specification.
This is precision calibration engineering — not simply a higher staged remap.
Remote Tuning Services
If you are unable to travel to us, we offer a structured remote tuning service developed to the same engineering standards as our in-house calibrations.
We supply a complete tuning kit and manage the process remotely in a controlled and professional manner.
How It Works:
Once connected to the vehicle, we remotely access the supplied laptop and manage the reading, calibration installation and any required data logging.
Where required, the vehicle must be able to be driven on the road to allow accurate data logging and calibration refinement.
Availability
Remote tuning is currently available for:
VAG ME7.5 (1.8T)
VAG EDC15 & EDC16 (1.9 & 2.0 TDI)
BMW EDC16 (2.0 & 3.0 TDI)
Please contact us to confirm ECU compatibility prior to booking.
